Airport Transit Visa

Overview

  • Nationals of the following countries require a visa to transit through the international area of any airport located in the territory of the Schengen States in order to take a connecting flight to a country outside the Schengen area.
  • Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia and Sri Lanka.

In addition, nationals of the following countries require a visa to transit through the international area of any airport located in Spain in order to take a connecting flight to a country outside the Schengen area:

  • Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Cuba, Djibouti, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, India, Liberia, Mali, Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leone, Syria, Togo and Yemen. Holders of passports issued by the Palestinian Authority also require a visa.
  • Nationals of the States included on the foregoing lists do not require an airport transit visa if they have a Schengen visa, or another type of visa, or a residence card permitting their return, issued by a Member State of the European Union or of the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, or by Andorra, Canada, the United States of America, Japan, or San Marino, or by any of the overseas countries and territories of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, or if they are a diplomatic passport holder, or a family member of a citizen of the EU or of the EEA, or a flight crew member of a State that is party to the International Civil Aviation Organization.

The airport transit visa enables transit through the international area of airports located in the Schengen area but does not permit entry into the territory of the Schengen States. When a connection entails a change in airport terminal that requires going through a border control, it will be necessary to apply for a Schengen visa.

Please note:

  • The Visa fees and BLS Service fees will be accepted –Cash- in USD only.
  • Any Additional Services will be accepted –Cash- in Egyptian Pounds only.
  • The rate of the Visa fees and BLS service fees might be changed without any notice as per the current exchange rate.
  • All fees are non-refundable.

Documents Required

"Checklist"

  • Schengen visa application form
  • Photograph.
  • Valid, unexpired passport
  • For non- Egyptian nationals: Proof of legal residence in Egypt, valid for 3 months beyond the intended date of departure from the territory of the Member States.
  • Proof of the professional status
  • Valid visa/residence for the next country or final destination.
  • Proof of the intention to carry out the onward journey, which can include a copy of the ticket or reservation for the onward flight and an explanation of the travel route.
  • Travel insurance
  • A marriage certificate is required in case of accompanying spouse.
  • For Minors: *Original of birth certificate is required.

* If the minor travels without his/her legal guardian, a parental consent of both parents/legal guardian shall be done at BLS office or done by public notary.

Photo Specifications

Please make sure that the photograph meets the following requirements:

  • You have to provide a one recent one (not more than 6 months old), sized in (3.5 x 4.5) zoom on the face.
  • Must be in color, taken against white background so that features are distinguishable and contrast against the background.
  • Clear share quality with the face in focus.
  • Printed on normal photographic paper (camera print).
  • Full face, non-smiling without glasses/sunglasses, a hat/cap or other head covering, unless the applicant wears such items because of their religious belief or ethnic background.

Note: If children under 12 years old are not attending their appointment(s), the parents have to provide two very recent photographs with their applications. In case the photographs do not meet the required specifications, the children will have to show up at the center to take a live photos.

Please follow these instructions carefully as If photographs presented do not meet these requirements your application will be considered incomplete.

According to The Embassy of Spain the processing time is from 15 to 45 calendar days. In some cases, this period could be extended.

Important information about Airport transit visa “TPA”

  • Valid visa/residence for the next country or final destination.
  • Proof of the intention to carry out the onward journey, which can include a copy of the ticket or reservation for the onward flight and an explanation of the travel route.
  • the applicant's intention not to enter the territory of any Member State.
  • Transit visa validity only for 24 hours
  • Start & end date of TPA will be blanket.
  • If applicant has a valid Schengen, he doesn’t need to apply for TPA
  • Applicant who travels for Schengen/national visa and set an appointment for Airport transit visa will be blocked for one month
